London is jam-packed with markets and delicious food that you and your foodies will love. We've handpicked a few of our favourite destinations all linked to our love of food :) So before the weather gets too cold, why not go exploring? Here's to a wild weekend!
Just round the corner from the hustle and bustle of Borough Market, is a small food market along the railway arches. Full of delicious stands (but not too many that you're overwhelmed!) Maltby Street is perfect on a Saturday morning with the kids. Head to St John bakery for freshly baked doughnuts (hurry though, they disappear quickly!) and wander along the market and discover the amazing array of food; salmon sandwiches, Spanish jamon, South African burgers and lots more. Just make sure you arrive with an empty stomach! And for interior lovers, Lassco is the perfect place for presents.
If you head further along the railway arches, you'll get to some amazing fruit and vegetable wholesalers that are open on a Saturday. One of our favourites is Natoora which is right at the very end of the railway arches through a small wooden door. There you'll be instantly transported to Italy :) Sicilian lemons and Italian cherry tomatoes make up just some of their delicious fresh produce.
Hackney City Farm is such a special place. Children and adults can discover farming right in the heart of London, get right up close to the animals, see, plant and smell vegetables (that you can then buy!) and other plants. We love how Hackney City Farm encourages children to learn about how our food is grown in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.
There are also pottery and mosaic classes on offer and a delicious Italian cafe, Frizzante, that's perfect for a relaxed Sunday lunch. Don't forget Columbia Road Flower Market is just around the corner where you can pick up amazing plants, herbs and flowers. Get there as early as you can to avoid the crowds.
This special space is the perfect Saturday or Sunday escape from the city. A lovely walk along the river over styles and fields (with cows in!) will take you to Petersham, a family-run nursery, shop, cafe and Michelin-starred restaurant. Wander round the nursery and discover beautiful plants and herbs, have a relaxed lunch outside or in one of the pretty glass houses, and for special occasions, their restaurant is sublime.
